Prayers needed

Please add this need to your prayer list.

Your immediate help is needed to protect the rights of Christian
adoption agencies in Virginia.

The Virginia Department of Social Services recently announced
revisions to the legal regulations that govern the licensing of
adoption agencies in the state. While many of the proposed changes
will improve the services offered to children and families, certain
standards will harm America World's, and other wonderful agencies',
important mission of ensuring that all children grow up in loving

One regulation is particularly troubling because it would deny
faith-based agencies the right to provide services in accordance with
their religious and moral beliefs. This standard would deny an agency
a license if that agency screened applicants based on religion, sexual
orientation, or family status. This means that America World and other
Christian agencies would be forced to accept all applicants regardless
of whether or not they share our religious and moral convictions, or
else be forced to forfeit our license to conduct adoption services.

America World is proud to be a part of the calling and tradition of
Christians helping orphaned and vulnerable children throughout the
world. Since our founding we have united over 3000 children with
loving, Christian families.

This regulation, if allowed to become law, would violate the
Constitutional rights of faith-based organizations and endanger our
ability to continue in this vital ministry. What’s worse is that it
will deny countless children in Virginia and around the world their
fundamental right to a family.

We emplore you to please take a few minutes of your time to stand up
for orphaned and vulnerable children.

Here’s a sample letter to use or help you think about what to say:

I am writing to express my opposition to new regulations proposed by
the Virginia Department of Social Services that violate the rights of
faith-based child welfare agencies, and will deny countless orphaned
and vulnerable children the right to a permanent, loving family.

Proposed regulation 22 VAC 40-131-170(B) would require a Licensed
Private Child Placing Agency to accept any individual who applies to
become a foster or adoptive parent regardless of whether that
individual shares the agency’s religious and moral beliefs. Agencies
that do not comply with this regulation would be in danger of losing
their license.

The Commonwealth of Virginia has a long and proud tradition of
citizens of faith working together to care for and protect children.
In fact, a significant number of children who are adopted today are
adopted with the help of faith-based organizations. These groups have
been successful at protecting children and providing them with
permanent, loving homes because of their tireless advocacy on behalf
of children. The proposed regulation, however, would forever silence
one of the strongest voices for children in the Commonwealth.

This regulation is a clear violation of the Constitutional right to
the free exercise of religion and is an attempt to elevate the rights
of one group of citizens at the expense of another. What’s worse is
that countless children in Virginia and around the world will be
denied their fundamental right to a family if it is allowed to become

I urge you to do everything in your power to oppose this regulation
and protect the right of faith-based organizations to continue to
serve children.

I will be following this issue and your response closely.

Thank you in advance, to all of our families, for your prayers on this
matter.  We serve a mighty God who can move mountains and change men's
hearts!• •

Update from Ethiopia

Greetings from Ethiopia! Things are going really well here and I'm excited to tell you that I'm now a full-time mommy! On Thursday morning I told a couple of the AWAA in-country staff (Yonas and Job) that I was ready to bring the boys to the guest house with me as soon as I could. That very afternoon while at the transition home, Yonas came up to me and told me that I could take them today! They wouldn't have the paperwork ready for me, but I could get that later. What a great surprise! So Thursday at 4:30, Jagiso and Simon were able to get in the van with me and come! Both boys fell asleep around 8:30 Thursday night and Simon slept until 6:30 a.m. and Jagiso slept until 7:00. That was great! Yesterday was our first full day together and we had some challenging moments as well as wonderful moments. Both boys were very happy when they woke up which was wonderful because I am NOT a morning person. By the end of the first day, I was exhausted, but it was a happy exhaustion. Of course, I was really wishing Garth could be here with us, but hopefully we'll get get to go home soon. I am hoping that our paperwork will be submitted to Embassy on Wednesday so please pray that that does in fact happen. The latest trend has been that once families get submitted to Embassy, they are cleared to travel within 1 day. However, nothing in Ethiopia...or adoption for that a sure thing. My mom will be flying here on April 5 so we definitely won't leave before then because I WILL need help with the boys on the way home. Thankfully the longest trip will be at night Ethiopian time so hopefully they will sleep the majority of the trip. Time will tell, though. Right now I am enjoying the sounds of my sons' breathing while they nap. Nap times are definitely a gift to mommies everywhere. Tonight at noon CST, we will get to communicate via Skype to Garth and my parents which I am greatly looking forward to. The boys have been asking where Daddy is so I'm excited to see how they react when they see him on the computer screen. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

My plan is to stay in Ethiopia until I can bring them both home sometime in April so please pray for a quick Embassy appointment! Thank you!

PLEASE PRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Garth and I are safely in Washington, DC in our hotel. We will soon be having dinner but we wanted to "reconnect" with our online family. I am SO GLAD we did! The first e-mail that was at the top of my list was from our family coordinator. Here is what she said:

Dear Garth & Carmen,

We are writing to ask your family to join us in prayer for the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs (MOWA) regarding the number of cases they will be able to process each day. They have made statements that they desire to decrease the number of recommendation letters they write each day. We understand that because of these statements, the Court and MOWA are in the process of meeting to discuss and work out any potential changes or new processes regarding adoptions in Ethiopia. We want to blanket these meetings with prayer and ask you to come along side us in this.

We are sorry to be sending information to your family so late in the day but we wanted to communicate this request to you before the weekend. We know rumors and concerns can arise from any information being shared in the adoption community and our desire is to continue to primarily provide you with any confirmed information in a timely manner. Please rest assured we will continue to seek information on what is happening in the adoption process in Ethiopia and will share with you any new confirmed information we receive.

Joining your family in prayer,
Caitlin Edwards

Africa Family Coordinator
One of the main reasons families don't pass court the first time is because MOWA hasn't written their letter of recommendation. If this does in fact take place, it could significantly delay court dates and Embassy hearings. Please pray that God's will be done in this matter.

Today I Kissed an Angel

Today I kissed an angel. I knew it from the start. The first time my angel smiled at me; I gave away my heart.

Today I kissed an angel; This angel child of mine. Though not of my creation, My child by God's design.

Today I kissed an angel. My heart is dancing wild; Our family, by a miracle; Blessed by our angel child.
