Merry Christmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

I hope you had a wonderful day yesterday and you were able to spend it with your loved ones. This year was the boys' 2nd Christmas in America and it was so much fun. Last year, they didn't really understand what Christmas was about, so there weren't any countdowns, incessant asking for certain toys, or general happiness that Christmas was almost there.

This year, however, was different. Jeremiah started counting down the days until Christmas at about 18 days until Christmas. There wasn't a day he was wrong on his countdown either. :-) The weekend before Christmas we went to Missouri to spend with Garth's parents. We had a GREAT time there. The boys got to go sledding, saw Home Alone for free at the Trenton movie theater (and got some presents as well), more sledding, and of course opening presents.

We headed back for home on Monday morning and attended a Christmas Eve service at Lifegate Church in Omaha (where we attend) and the boys got some jingle bells. After running a few errands we went home.

For Christmas presents, we get the boys presents in 4 categories: Something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read in addition to a few stocking stuffers. When we got home from the Christmas Eve service, I made some soup to have for supper and then we let the boys open their "Something to wear" presents. They both got new pajamas and we wanted to let them wear them to bed that night. After supper we watched The Polar Express until 10:00, which was bedtime. As I went to bed after putting stuff in their stockings, I wondered if they would wake up at like 6:00 like I used to do.

At 8:09 Christmas morning, I heard 4 little feet running to our room and then "IT'S CHRISTMAS!" We had a wonderful day together and Garth even took the boys sledding again. We opened presents first, had a late breakfast, made Christmas cookies, watched Christmas movies on Netflix, read the new books and played. Enjoy some pictures from our weekend in Missouri and Christmas holiday. :-)

Fundraiser Friday - 31 Gifts

OK, first I have to apologize for forgetting the link to Angie's 31 page last week. I'm not sure how that happened. In any case, here is her page. You can choose from a Hang-Up Room Organizer, Hang-Up Home Organizer, Hang-Up Family Organizer, Your Way Cube, Your Way Rectangle, or Room for 2 Utility Totes.

Next week, I'll give you detailed ordering instructions but for now you really CAN start looking at her site. I have also posted some pictures of a few of their items below.

Fundraiser Friday

First, I am excited to tell you that we got our first 50 puzzle pieces sponsored for our puzzle! Thank you so much, Diener family! I will start putting it together tomorrow and will take pictures of it so you can see the progress.

This week I'm not really going to talk about our current fundraisers, because I want you to start thinking about the fundraiser we will begin in January. Have you heard of 31 Gifts? If not, you're about to. An adoption friend, Angie Mohr, will be holding a fundraiser show for us beginning in January. I will have more details next week, but in the meantime you can click here to start looking at her website. They have such cute things. Angie and her family are currently waiting for a referral of 1 or 2 boys from Ethiopia. They were DTE on 11/21/11 so they are anxiously awaiting that phone call from America World. You can check out their blog here.

Also, I will be taking the books I talked about in the previous post to Half Price Book Store on Sunday, except for those that people have asked about. If you would like to buy any of the books I have listed, please let me know before Sunday or they will be gone. :-)

De-Cluttering my life: Books

In an effort to get rid of clutter, I am beginning a winter project of getting rid of things we don't need/want anymore. Tonight, I started with books. I have to tell you that this is NOT easy for me since I love books, but since I have very little time to read anymore, and other people might get more use out of them, I started sorting. I originally was going to just take them to Half Price Books and sell them there, but before I do that, I wanted to give my FB friends and blog readers (all 3 of you..haha) first chance at getting some books if you would like them. Of course, the money that we make will go directly to our adoption. These books are not listed in ANY kind of order, but I did try to put them together if the books were by the same author or in a series. I have listed the books by title and then gave the copyright date and ISBN if there was one listed.

So you may be wondering how much these books are. Well, that's up to you. Make an offer on them and we'll probably take it. If I will be shipping them to you, I will need you to pay for the shipping, but I will ship them as cheaply as possible. If you would like to buy one/some, either leave a comment as to what your offer is and what you want or send me an email at cdruckenmiller@gmail.com with "Book Order" in the title so I look at it quickly. I am also posting these on and we will be selling them on a first come, first served basis. Tonight I cleaned off 4 shelves and these are the books that we are getting rid of:

The Bookshelf for boys and girls volume 1: Nursery Favorites Old and New, 1955

Fundraiser Friday...The Puzzle

Today's featured fundraiser is our puzzle. I had a really hard time deciding what puzzle to get for our daughter from India, but I just kept coming back to this one. After all, we will have our own Indian princess one day. We did a similar fundraiser for the boys and I love being able to show them all the people who helped bring them home.

For this fundraiser, people/families "sponsor" a piece for $5. We will then write your name on the back of the piece(s). When the puzzle is complete, we will glue it together and frame it with glass on each side so not only will our daughter see the puzzle, but she'll be able to see the names of the people who helped bring her home. So far we have had 0 pieces sponsored. I would LOVE to get this puzzle started NEXT WEEK!

To sponsor a piece, you can send us a check, cash, or money order to us at 111 N Engdahl Ave, Oakland, NE 68045. You can also send us money via Paypal by clicking the link we just added on the right. We would, however, prefer money in the mail because Paypal does take 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, so we wouldn't be getting the full amount (so a fee of $3.20 on a donation of $100).

Who is going to sponsor the 1st puzzle piece?

Fundraiser Friday

It's been a while since I have talked about our ongoing fundraisers, so I'm going to do it now.

Amazon I have an Amazon store and when items are purchased on here, we will get a commission. Right now I have only health and beauty products and books, but I will be adding other things as well. If there is something specific that you would like to buy and help support our adoption, please let me know and I'll try to get it added to my store. On the left of our blog, you will also see a search box that allows you to search for anything you can think of. The product will be displayed right there on our page at which time you can click on it. If you hover your mouse over the web address, as long as it says DruckFamilyAdo-20 at the end you know you are supporting our adoption.

Books: Half Price Book stores will buy used books from people to sell at their stores. If you have books in piles because you don't have room on your shelves anymore, we would be happy to take those books that you don't read anymore so you can put the new ones on the shelves. Just let us know and we will come pick them up.

Cans: If you don't recycle your cans, let us do it for you! We would like your uncrushed aluminum cans so we can recycle them for you. Not only are you helping the earth by recycling, you'll be helping us with our adoption expenses!

Cards for a Cause: This past Thanksgiving weekend, I was able to sell several more boxes of cards, which was great! I just got a new shipment of the all-occasion cards so if you would like to get a box, please let me know. There are 30 cards in the boxes and you can have it for only $31.10 plus shipping if I can't deliver it to you.

Coupaide: This fundraiser allows you to get a $50 Restaurant.com gift certificate for only $20! We will in turn get a check for $10 for each certificate that is purchased. To see what restaurants you can choose from, click here and enter your zip code. There are thousands of restaurants that participate with Restaurant.com, so see what is close to you! We have currently had 1 purchased, but we'd love to see a lot more get this great deal!

Just Love Coffee: We had this fundraiser with the boys and people really liked it so we kept it going. We get paid a set amount for every item purchased, which is outlined below. I always like it when I see that Just Love Coffee check in the mail!

13oz. Coffees (non-small lot): $5
Taste of Africa (4) 6oz. Sampler: $7
Tour of The World (4) 6oz. Sampler: $7
Coffee Cupper's Sampler: $19

Chemex Brewer: $3

Sponsor a Puzzle Piece: Look at this gorgeous puzzle that we will be putting together for our Indian princess. Each piece can be sponsored for only $5 and you will get your name written on the back of the puzzle piece. When we frame it, we will put glass on the back so our child/ren will be able to see all the people who helped bring them home. Also, since there are 1500 pieces, if we get all the pieces sponsored by the time we are finished with our dossier, we will ALSO have all the money raised to send it in!

In the new year, I will have some other fundraisers as well, but for now we will keep up with these. If you have any questions about any of the fundraisers, don't hesitate to ask! Thanks so much!

Seasons of Crafts show

This weekend I will be in Lincoln at the Seasons of Crafts show with a Pampered Chef table. While this isn't your "normal" fundraiser, all the money that I make at this event will be going towards our adoption. It is at the Lancaster Events Center at 84th and Havelock Avenue in the Lincoln Room. The show will run from 9-4 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday. I will have some cash and carry items as well as a 10% discount on any catalog orders placed at the event. I have attached some pictures of a few of the cash and carry items that will be for sale. Also, if you mention this blog post, I'll give you a free Season's Best cookbook while supplies last. I hope to see you there!

The versatile brownie pan. With the purchase of this, I will also email you an eCookbook with over 50 recipes for this pan including pizza, breakfast bakes, lasagna, meat loaf, etc.

The shimmering glass platter. A must have for your holiday entertaining!

Anyone who buys/orders the trifle bowl will also receive a trifle bowl recipe book including a yam trifle, banana split trifle, apple spice cake trifle, and many, many more!

Update on India program

I know it's been a while since I have blogged about our India adoption and it's because there hasn't really been anything to report. We are still steadily building our dossier and fundraising. However, yesterday we got a call from Melissa at AWAA in the India program telling us about a change. Following the conversation, we got this email:

Dear Families:

CARA* has announced that they are closing to any new applicants/registration from December 1, 2012 to February 2013  due to “sufficient number of applicants registered for inter-country adoption.” We do not know if this means they will reopen sometime in February or soon after. We do know that last time they closed it took several months longer for them to reopen than originally anticipated. Therefore, we want all families to be prepared for potential delays in re-opening and the unknowns of when that will happen and what new quotas or rules may apply to the process at that time.

Currently AWAA has families in the following stages of their process:

1.       Completing paperwork/not yet registered with CARA: All families who have not yet been registered with CARA were called this morning and informed of their various options.
2.       Registered with CARA and waiting on orphanage assignment: These families are aware that CARA is updating their internal website and we will be notified of the orphanage assignments after that time.
3.       Assigned an Orphanage: Many families are waiting for confirmation from their orphanage assignment regarding their dossier and referral waiting process. Orphanages are still operating for inter-country adoption though we continue to expect delays in communication with the orphanages.
4.       Waiting for Approvals: Some families have received a referral or referral review opportunity and are waiting for approvals from the orphanage or courts in India. Orphanages and courts in India will still be processing adoptions.

Please feel free to continue to call or email me with questions about your adoption process. Our offices will close Thursday and Friday this week for the Thanksgiving holiday but I am in the office for the next few days. AWAA will be praying for CARA as they reorganize their system and for all our families in the India program.

If I don’t talk to you again before the holiday, I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving with your family and friends.

Sincerely,

Melissa

This happened last year at about this same time and they reopened in February so I FULLY expect them to reopen again. When Melissa called us, she gave us various options of what we could do. They are:

1.  Withdraw from India and transfer to another program: This was not even an option for us. The path of international adoption is filled with unknowns, slow-downs, changes, etc. We knew this when we signed up for it. Since we aren't even done with our dossier, this just means we have more time to get it finished and when they DO reopen, we could be at the top of the list to get assigned an orphanage.

2.  Hold all paperwork: We could suspend our home study and paperwork if we did not feel 100% sure we would want to register or continue when India reopens. Again, this wasn't an option either. We KNOW we have at least a daughter (and possibly a sibling group) in India somewhere and we will continue on until we get her/them home.

3.  Continue paperwork, complete home study. Once our home study is completed, they will send us the 1-page CARA registration form and with those 2 items we would be ready to register with CARA when it reopens. We could also then move forward with the I800a USCIS application and the rest of our dossier documents so everything will be ready when we are registered and assigned an orphanage. This is the best option if we are 100% sure we will move forward regardless of when they reopen. The only downfall to going forward with the I800a is that there is a small risk of paperwork expiring if India doesn't open back up until later in the year, but generally speaking as long as our paperwork is not older than 12 months when it is submitted to India, we will be OK for the initial dossier mailing to the orphanage. Later, when our paperwork is presented at court, all families will have to update paperwork or complete complete new paperwork according to that specific orphanage and court rules. These details won't be known until we get to that point of the process.

We could also wait on the USCIS application, but it does have to be submitted within 6 months of finalizing our home study.

So, at this point we are still working on our dossier, raising money via fundraisers, and praying every day for our daughter/children in India. We are also praying for the family that this really affects...those who were so close to getting submitted and now won't be able to for at least 2 more months.

Today I Kissed an Angel

Today I kissed an angel. I knew it from the start. The first time my angel smiled at me; I gave away my heart.

Today I kissed an angel; This angel child of mine. Though not of my creation, My child by God's design.

Today I kissed an angel. My heart is dancing wild; Our family, by a miracle; Blessed by our angel child.
