A little bit BIGGER update

Today I took the boys to the zoo with another friend, then went to Costco to get a few groceries, and then home. Periodically throughout the day I would think to myself "I wonder if I got an email from AWAA yet? I wonder if we've been assigned a family coordinator?" We got home at about 5:00 and as soon as I got the groceries put away that needed to be put in the refrigerator or freezer, I got out my laptop to check. I had 51 unread emails and as I scanned through the senders, I kept hoping I would see either AWAA or Sara. Finally, at about unread email #45, I saw the name I was looking for. :-) Here is what Sara said:

Dear Garth & Carmen ~

I hope you are doing well today!  I wanted to email you to confirm receipt of your initial agreement paperwork and payment.  Now that I’ve received your paperwork, your family will be assigned a Family Coordinator to work with you through the remainder of your process.  You should hear from your Family Coordinator within the next week or so regarding the next steps.  If you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

It has been a pleasure to assist your family through the process thus far and I wish you the best in your adoption journey!  I pray that the Lord will guide and strengthen you through your process.

In Him,

Sara J. Munyan

I have to admit that I was first a little disappointed because I was hoping to have the name of our family coordinator right now, but then I remembered that I better get used to waiting.....and waiting.....and then waiting some more. :-)

Small update

This morning I emailed Sara Munyan at AWAA letting her know that we had mailed in our first set of paperwork and fee on Friday so they would hopefully receive it today or tomorrow. Just got a response from that said:

Hi Carmen ~

It arrived this afternoon and will be processed tomorrow. You will receive an email from me when this has been completed and your file has been transferred.

One step closer!  :-)

Fundraiser Friday

To give credit where credit is due, I am totally stealing the Fundraiser Friday idea from my friends Pam and Nate Maxwell. They are towards the end of their Ethiopian adoption and are waiting for Embassy clearance to travel back to Ethiopia to bring their beautiful daughter Maya Kisanet Joy home. Anyway, on Fridays, I will be highlighting one of the fundraisers that we have going on and letting you know of any new fundraisers that we will be having.

If you don't want to wait until Friday to find out what we are doing, I will also be creating a Fundraiser tab so you can go to that any time to see what we have going on.

For this first one, I will be highlighting our aluminum can fundraiser. We did this with our Ethiopian adoption and it was one of the most successful fundraisers. If you live nearby, we would LOVE to take your uncrushed cans off your hands so we can recycle them for you. If you have some you want to give us, feel free to email me at

First payment sent!

I am excited to tell you that I just mailed the first set of paperwork and the first payment in for our India adoption! We will next be assigned a family coordinator by America World and then the true paper chase will begin. During our Ethiopian adoption it took us 9 months to get our dossier completed, but I'm hoping this time it won't take as long. :-)

Created for Care, March 2013

Since we began our Ethiopian adoption in 2010, I had been hearing about the Created for Care retreats for adoptive mamas and how AWESOME they are. Seriously, they often sell out of spaces in a matter of hours. I have always wanted to go, but it was never the right time....until NOW! I'm so excited to share that I'll be going to the conference in March! This retreat is held at the Lake Lanier Legacy Lodge and Conference Center in Buford, Georgia. Click here to see the beauty that will be surrounding us while we are there. The retreat will be held Friday through Sunday but I'll actually be going on Thursday so I can hopefully see some family and friends who live nearby. To see what we'll be doing during the retreat, click here. The breakaway classes that I signed up for are: FUNdraising your adoption; Older Child/Teen Adoption-Helping the Older Child Connect, Heal and Grow; and Identity, Adoption and Racism: What America Taught Me about Me. Probably the BEST part about this retreat, however, is just fellowshipping (I know, not a real word) with other adoptive mamas! So far I know of 19 other mamas going to this retreat JUST from the America World Ethiopia program! I'm hoping to get to meet some people who have adopted from India too, but time will tell. If you are going or have gone, I'd love to hear your comments! What was your favorite part of the weekend?

Amazon Associate

Now that we have begun our 2nd adoption, I will be blogging about our fundraising endeavors. The first one that is new from our last adoption was the decision to become an Amazon Associate. On the left of this page is a link to my associate site and if you order items from Amazon through that link, I will get "paid" for your purchase through my link. How much I get paid depends on how many people use my link. Right now I get 4%.  I know a lot of people order from Amazon, so this could potentially be a very good fundraiser for us. Feel free to share this blog with your friends as well!

Here we go again!

Welcome to the India Program!

At 1:49 p.m. today I was going through my list of things to take to Mom and Dad's for their 50th wedding anniversary when I saw this email come in.  My mood instantaneously went from frustrated that we hadn't left yet to absolute excitement! I literally screamed out loud and didn't even open the email right away. When I told the boys (who had been outside when I screamed) they both jumped up and down and shouted "YEAH!" and gave me big hugs. They are so excited about having more siblings. We have told them that they will for sure get at least 1 sister, but God knows who will fit into our family so the rest is up to Him. This time around we are requesting 2 siblings again with the ages being between newborn and 10 years old. The India program is new with America World which guarantees that there will be some changes as we move forward with this next adoption. Of course, NO international adoption is without its ups and downs.

So you may be wondering what our next steps are. Here is the list:

Please sign and return the following documents along with your initial program fee:
·         America World Adoption Agreement: India
·         Schedule of Fees: India Program
·         India Disclaimer
·         Client Grievance Procedure
·         Client’s Rights and Responsibilities
·         Family Service Plan

Since this is our 2nd adoption with America World, we get a 10% discount on the program fees with them, which is nice. This time around, the initial program fee is $1980. Once we send that in along with the paperwork, we will be assigned a family coordinator and the true paper chase begins!

I will update you more as our adoption progresses, but in the meantime, pray for us as we begin the process again to our next child/ren. We can hardly wait to see how God works through us and our family and friends this time around!

If you would like more information on the India program, click here to go to the America World website.

Today I Kissed an Angel

Today I kissed an angel. I knew it from the start. The first time my angel smiled at me; I gave away my heart.

Today I kissed an angel; This angel child of mine. Though not of my creation, My child by God's design.

Today I kissed an angel. My heart is dancing wild; Our family, by a miracle; Blessed by our angel child.
